Meet the Estonian Reform Party’s new leader. Kaja Kallas, a member of the European Parliament, is the daughter of former Estonian prime minister and European Commissioner Siim Kallas, who was one of the party founders in the 1990s.
“The increasing reliance on the government leads to passive citizens. We need to encourage people and businesses to act on their own behalf,” Kallas told the party congress. She stressed the importance of a strong and smart society.
“Our tax and social systems do not correspond to the changes in the economy,” she said. “Estonia is a small and flexible country that has the unique opportunity to come up with innovative ideas to solve future challenges.”
Kallas has been an MEP since 2011. She is a member of the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) and has served as vice chair of the Estonian Reform Party since 2013.
