Romania will use its turn at the helm of the European Union’s six-month rotating presidency to push a number of issues to the top of the EU agenda. The list includes management of the EU’s external borders, migration and the strengthening of the bloc’s domestic security.
As announced by Romania’s internal affairs ministry, community policing is a big issue. According to the ministry, it is “aimed at facilitating the relationship between law enforcement agencies and the expat communities within the member states of the European Union.”
As reported by Romania-Insider.com, more than 300 internal affairs ministry experts will be assigned to assist the country with the presidency. Specifically, they will assist in organising the 20 task groups and provide expertise for 10 working groups under the responsibility of other ministries. The internal affairs ministry will organise 20 informal events, including two ministerial meetings, nine senior officials meetings and nine expert meetings.
The first event is slated to be held January 29-31 in Bucharest. It will be organised by the Emergency Situations Department and the Emergency Situations Inspectorate. The event will tackle the topic of the readiness for disasters.
