The European People’s Party (EPP) President Joseph Daul congratulated the ACUM bloc composed of EPP member parties PAS and PPDA on the formation of the government and assuming leadership of the Republic of Moldova.
“Today is a historic day for the Republic of Moldova and all its people. Today, Moldova has a democratically elected ACUM-led government. Today is the day Moldova begins turning from a captured state into a recovering democracy. For this, I would like to wholeheartedly congratulate the ACUM bloc and its leaders Maia Sandu and Andrei Nastase for achieving the insurmountable task of forming a government and avoiding snap elections. Despite unimaginable provocations and obstacles organised by Vladimir Plahotniuc to make ACUM and PSRM fail, democracy has prevailed.”
President Daul congratulated Maia Sandu on her appointment as Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova. He added that he was impressed by her courage to fight against the oligarchic control and by her determination to bring democracy and prosperity to her people.
Daul also congratulated Andrei Nastase for his appointment as Deputy Prime Minister and he pointed out that has been a strong force against an autocratic Moldova and his commitment to bring change was undeniable.
“An ACUM-led government is a major achievement for our member parties but also for all the Moldovans who voted for change. A change that the Democratic Party (PD) is not ready to accept. Instead, they are desperately trying to undermine the legitimate and democratically elected government and parliament through the state institutions they control. It is revolting to see how the judges of the constitutional court are following Vladimir Plahotniuc’s orders instead of the law enshrined in Moldova’s constitution. In all democracies the constitution is the supreme law that will prevail above all interpretations, and I hope this will be the case in Moldova. As I have stated before, any provocations or use of violence to topple the newly-elected democratic government will be strongly condemned. PD must respect the outcome and ensure a peaceful transition of power. I would also like to call on PSRM to keep their word and support the necessary reforms to liberate Moldova from oligarchic control,” the President of EPP said.
