At the last meeting of the ALDE Group in the European Committee of the Regions (ALDE CoR) which took place on 26 June, following the decision of renaming the ALDE Group in the European Parliament to Renew Europe, it was decided to rename ALDE CoR to Renew Europe.
The new name shows that the Group at the European Committee of the Regions is united with the Renew Europe Group in the European Parliament.
“We need to rethink and renew Europe. We have to work with our sister group in the European Parliament to grow, to become a stronger positive voice in Europe,” said Bart Somers, who is currently the mayor of Mechelen and the President of Renew Europe CoR.
The new name was inspired by the ALDE Party’s slogan used throughout the European elections campaign by the seven lead candidates that formed Team Europe.
Over the coming weeks, Renew Europe Secretariat will take the necessary steps to implement the decision.
