Danish defence patrols spotted Russian vessels days before the Nord Stream pipeline explosion near the island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea last September, according to new official documents just released.
According to the Danish daily “Information”, up to 112 photos of Russian vessels taken by the Danish patrol team focused on the area where the explosion was seen.
The Danish Command has denied the general file access requested by local media on grounds that the photos “are part of the intelligence work, which is why they are exempt from file access.”
The Nord Stream explosions occurred close to the coasts of Bornholm island and southern Sweden. Along with Germany, Denmark and Sweden are running a joint investigation to determine the facts behind the explosion. Although it has yet to be concluded, all three countries have indicated that the explosions were an act of sabotage. A request by Russia to be included in the probe was rejected by Denmark’s Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen.
