On October 6, 2023, the European Union provided a budget support grant to the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic for the education sector. The grant amount was EUR 7 million, roughly 665 million Kyrgyz soms. This payment is the first installment of EUR 27 million allocated for the budget support programme. The programme will help the Kyrgyz Government implement its Education Development Strategy from 2023-2026. The programme aims to improve educational quality and student assessment systems, promote gender equality and multilingual education, and strengthen public finance management. The Ministry of Finance has allocated the grant funding to improve education quality, provide textbooks, and ensure internet access at all schools.
“Education system accessible for all is key priority for the cooperation between the government of Kyrgyzstan and the European Union and reflects the strong commitment of the EU to support the Kyrgyz development agenda, stated Marilyn Josefson, the Ambassador of the EU to the Kyrgyz Republic.
