Lithuania will contribute 2 million euros to the global humanitarian initiative Grain from Ukraine this year.
After Russia invaded Ukraine and blockaded its Black Sea ports, Kyiv sought international help to export grain. Some of it was shipped through the Lithuanian seaport of Klaipėda.
During an official visit to Kyiv on Saturday, Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė said: “Russia is trying to turn food into a weapon again, but this time such intentions will not succeed, among other reasons, thanks to the Grain from Ukraine initiative.”.
Last year, Lithuania provided 2 million euros to the humanitarian food program initiated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“Through centuries, Russia has been changing names but not its nature or methods. Almost a century after the Holodomor, Russia again attempts to use food as a weapon, this time by devastating 🇺🇦 civilian ports, grain storages and blockading of the Black Sea.
At the 2nd ‘Grain from Ukraine’ summit, I announced that this year 🇱🇹 Lithuania will contribute another 2 mln EUR to this global humanitarian initiative by President @ZelenskyyUa to help mitigate threats to food security caused by Russia’s war of aggression.
Still, the only way to ensure both food security and lasting peace in Europe is to help Ukraine win this war and defeat Russia asap,” Lithuanian Prime Minister posted on November 25.
