Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee will examine potential conflicts of interest of Commissioners-designate

EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT

The Legal Affairs Committee (JURI) will begin reviewing the declarations of interest submitted by Commissioners-designate on Thursday. The Conference of Presidents has set a deadline for the procedure to be concluded by 18 October 2024.

According to Parliament’s rules, the Legal Affairs Committee must provide written confirmation of the absence of any conflict of interest for each Commissioner-designate about their portfolio before they can participate in the hearing in the European Parliament.

The examination process is confidential and takes place in camera without public access.
The procedure’s outcome will be communicated after JURI has completed the process for all the candidates. Declarations of interest submitted by Commissioners-designate will be published once the assessment procedure has finished and before the start of the confirmation hearings.
