Today, the European Union (EU) and Moldova held their 8th Security and Defence Dialogue in Chisinau, the first since signing the Security and Defence Partnership in May 2024. The meeting focused on regional security issues, ongoing defence relations, and future cooperation opportunities.
Both parties acknowledged their strengthening partnership and shared updates on the Moldovan National Security Strategy and the EU’s Strategic Compass. They discussed the EU Partnership Mission in Moldova and cooperation on hybrid threats, cybersecurity, and foreign information manipulation.
The recent elections in Moldova tested the country’s resilience against Russia’s hybrid campaign. The Moldovan government has committed to enhancing its preparedness for future threats, and the EU pledged ongoing support, including strategic advice and operational assistance.
Additionally, the parts discussed assistance measures under the European Peace Facility to bolster the Moldovan Armed Forces and praised Moldova’s contributions to the EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy missions.
Cosmin Dobran, the EEAS Director for Peace, Partnerships, and Crisis Management, represented the EU, while Alexandru Codreanu, Head of the Directorate for Cooperation with the EU at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented Moldova.
