Tauron has launched the Gamów wind farm in the Silesian province, marking its fourteenth onshore wind farm. The site, located in the Rudnik commune, consists of 15 turbines with a total capacity of 33 MW. This is Tauron’s third wind farm commissioned this year, following the 59 MW Mierzyn farm in West Pomeranian Voivodeship and the 30 MW Warblewo farm in Pomerania. The company also plans to complete the 55 MW Proszówek wind farm in Lower Silesia soon.
Tauron Polska Energia S.A. is Poland’s second most prominent company in terms of energy production. With the Gamów farm, Tauron’s renewable energy segment has increased its total installed capacity to nearly 700 MW, including 12 wind farms (499 MW), 34 hydroelectric plants (133 MW), and three photovoltaic farms (56 MW). The expected annual output of Gamów will meet the energy needs of about 28,000 households, producing over 80,000 MWh.
Tauron Zielona Energia is also working on other projects, including three onshore installations and additional photovoltaic and wind farms, which will expand their renewable capacity.
A new strategy for 2025-35
On Tuesday, Tauron unveiled its strategy for 2025-2035, aiming to boost renewable energy sources from 700 MW to nearly 4.7 GW by 2035 and establish energy storage facilities with a capacity of almost 1.5 GW. Key aspects of the strategy include achieving climate neutrality by 2040, investing PLN 60 billion in the distribution segment, and exceeding 6 GW of capacity in renewable sources and energy storage by 2035.
Grzegorz Lot, President of the Management Board of TAURON Polska Energia, emphasised the importance of their 6 million customers connected to the distribution network and the goal of generating 100% clean energy by 2040. The company also aims to enhance customer experience by enabling 80% of inquiries to be handled online.
Tauron plans to invest in various technologies, including 1.5 GW in onshore wind farms by 2030 and 2.4 GW by 2035, 0.4 GW in offshore wind by 2035, and 1 GW in photovoltaic farms by 2030. Total investments are expected to reach PLN 100 billion by 2035, with PLN 60 billion for power grids and PLN 30 billion for renewable energy.
“In addition to clean, green energy, we must also provide our Customers with security and a good price. Without these three factors, there is no chance for the region’s economic development or thermal comfort in homes,” highlighted Grzegorz Lot during the presentation of Tauron’s new strategy for 2025-2035.
