The Polish Minister of Finance, Andrzej Domański, remarked that building a strong European defence industry based on the latest technologies is extremely important.

The Ministry of Finance’s priorities during Poland’s presidency of the EU Council are security, enhancing the capabilities of the European defence industry, boosting the competitiveness of the EU economy, developing capital markets, updating the customs code, and supporting Ukraine, as stated by the head of the Ministry of Finance, Andrzej Domański, on Thursday.

Minister Domański emphasised the need to discuss increasing the defence effort at the European Union level, expanding the production capacity of the European defence industry, and fostering technological development and innovation. The Minister remarked that building a strong European defence industry based on the latest technologies is extremely important.

Another key priority is restoring the competitiveness of the EU economy, which requires significant acceleration through the simplification of regulations and deregulation. The Ministry will also focus on promoting the capital markets union to improve access to capital for EU companies, as limited financing is a significant barrier to the growth of many European firms.

The Minister highlighted the need to reform the European Union customs code, noting the rapid increase in parcels arriving in EU countries. He said the EU needs reform and must tighten its borders so European companies can compete on equal and fair terms.

Lastly, Minister Domański mentioned the importance of supporting Ukraine consistently and continuing work on the 15th and 16th packages of sanctions against Russia.
