Today in Tirana, representatives from the EU Delegation to Albania, the European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and the Albanian government gathered to launch the procurement process for the most significant EU grant ever awarded to Albania, totalling €136 million.

This project aims to rehabilitate the railway line from Vora to Hani i Hotit, connecting Albania to Montenegro and beyond. It is a flagship initiative that will revitalise 120 kilometres of railway tracks, modernise 12 train stations, and implement state-of-the-art safety measures. The project promotes greener and electrified transportation, which will help reduce emissions and enhance regional connectivity.

EU Ambassador Silvio Gonzato emphasised the importance of this rehabilitation project in connecting Albania with other countries in the region and with the EU. He noted that it would contribute to Albania’s socio-economic development by creating new opportunities for businesses and residents. “The rehabilitated railway is also a step toward a greener future. The EU continues to support Albania in achieving sustainable development and improving regional connectivity,” the Ambassador stated.
