INPEX Masela, LTD. (INPEX), part of the INPEX Corporation, a top global energy company, has chosen Royal HaskoningDHV’s Twinn Witness LNG Logistics Simulator for the Abadi LNG project in Indonesia. LNG is an important transitional energy source for Indonesia and the Asian market. The Abadi LNG project is set to make a significant impact by producing about 9.5 million tons of LNG each year for customers both at home and abroad.
The LNG Logistics Simulator helps manage risks in terminal operations and business strategies. It’s built to spot potential issues, evaluate how operations can be flexible, and improve future processes. For over 20 years, the simulation experts at Royal HaskoningDHV (formerly Lanner) have guided LNG operators to find the right balance between being flexible and managing business risks.
This simulator allows complex LNG operations and supply chains to be visualised in a safe, virtual space. As the demand for LNG is expected to change significantly in the coming years, suppliers must be ready to test their choices and understand the impacts of different development options, contracts, and process decisions before investing. This tech is also used more for new fuels, like ammonia and liquid CO2 projects.
Royal HaskoningDHV’s team has created a virtual model of the whole INPEX value chain using the simulator, which includes everything from onshore development to terminal and shipping operations. Instead of just relying on scheduling tools and straightforward analyses, this setup lets INPEX play around with different production, storage, and port options, as well as various shipping strategies and market mixtures. It considers risks like weather issues, equipment failures, and scheduling changes.
“We are proud to support INPEX on this vital project that will ensure a reliable energy source for both domestic and overseas customers. Our LNG Logistics Simulator balances production, physical, and commercial interests in a single digital environment, providing comprehensive evaluations that help INPEX make informed, data-backed decisions quickly and confidently,” Briain O’Dowd, Global Director for Energy and New Fuels, said in a statement.
On top of that, the simulation helps INPEX figure out storage capacity and berth availability, which is vital for developing customer contracts. It ensures these contracts are flexible enough for INPEX to meet commitments, even if there’s an unexpected hiccup.
