Today marks the 75th anniversary of the D-day landings in World War II that began the liberation of France and subsequently the rest of Europe from Nazi control.
Marking the occasion, the co-chairs of the European Green Party Reinhard Bütikofer and Monica Frassoni commented:
“75 years ago, it needed D-Day and huge sacrifices of the anti-Nazi alliance to fight for European freedom. Today, we must not allow the ghosts of our past to rise again. That’s why we stand for democracy, rule of law and human rights throughout Europe.”
