DRI, the EU renewables division of the Ukrainian energy company DTEK, has signed the most significant physical solar power purchase agreement (PPA) in Romania with OMV Petrom S.A., the largest integrated energy producer in Southeastern Europe, on 20 December. This PPA is a comprehensive package that groups together three PPAs with OMV Petrom over an 8.5-year period, amounting to approximately 100 GWh per year at a fixed rate. The agreement includes the sale of physical electricity and Guarantees of Origin.

“This is an important agreement for DRI and the Romanian renewables sector as the largest physical solar offtake deal ever in Romania. Securing long-term corporate offtake agreements is essential to facilitate renewable energy growth, demonstrating that clean energy offers a competitive alternative. We are delighted to have signed this deal with OMV Petrom, one of the largest and strongest Romanian businesses,” John Stuart, CEO of DRI, said.

He highlighted that this agreement will help to accelerate Romania’s energy transition and OMV Petrom’s strategic goals.

Physical delivery of electricity will begin in January 2026, with OMV Petrom purchasing 62% of the energy produced by DRI’s Glodeni I and Glodeni II solar plants, which have a combined capacity of 113 MWp. Starting in January 2027, OMV Petrom will acquire 50% of the production from DRI’s Vacaresti solar project, which has a capacity of 126 MWp and is set to begin construction in 2025. Any energy produced by DRI projects that are not sold under the OMV Petrom PPA will be marketed by DTEK’s subsidiary, D.TRADING.

The Amsterdam-based renewable energy company DRI has a portfolio totalling 299 MW in Romania, including the first wind farm constructed in the country in the last decade. The company aims to deliver 1 GW of renewable energy and battery storage projects in Romania by 2030.

Across its key markets, DRI now boasts a portfolio of 1.3 GW that includes operating projects, construction projects, and others at various development stages, aligning with its goal to build a 5 GW portfolio by 2030.

DRI operates in four priority countries: Croatia, Italy, Poland, and Romania. Its first two projects in Romania are now fully operational, providing 113 MW of wind and solar power. Additionally, DRI has seven projects totalling 1,058.5 MW at various stages of development across Europe.
