On the occasion of the plenary debate on Libya, held on 14 January, the Chair of the European Parliament’s delegation for relations with the Maghreb countries, Andrea Cozzolino, declared:

“In the dramatic situation faced by Libya, the European Union and its Member States cannot just stand by. They must immediately put in place a common action that will lead to an effective ceasefire, to an inclusive political dialogue, reconciliation and democratic stabilization. An EU mission to Libya should be sent as soon as possible, to foster peace and dialogue, in support of the Berlin process and in full concertation with the UN Special Representative Ghassan Salamé. The living conditions of the Libyan citizens are of great concern for us. This crisis has lasted for too long, with dreadful consequences for all the people. This has to stop. The European Union needs to be united, speak with one voice and take effective measures to restore peace in our neighbouring country”.
