In light of the latest developments regarding the new and first European Chief Public Prosecutor, the EPP Group reiterates its support for Laura Codruţa Kövesi for the role.
“Fighting corruption and money laundering is no easy task. We need strong individuals to be truly independent, strong and resilient. Kövesi has all these characteristics to make sure that taxpayers’ money is being used in the best interest of all Europeans,” said Monika Hohlmeier MEP, Chairwoman of the European Parliament’s Budgetary Control Committee.
“In view of recent reports on Kövesi’s nomination for this role, the EPP Group stands firmly behind her. We will continue to ensure that the selection process of the European Chief Public Prosecutor is as transparent as could be, and we look forward to further negotiations with the Council on this matter,” added Roberta Metsola MEP, the EPP Group’s Spokeswoman in the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Committee.
