The European People’s Party (EPP) Political Assembly (PA) met in Brussels on 3-4 June to analyse the results of the European elections, discuss political developments in member states and the upcoming priorities for the next mandate. The members welcomed Ukrainian party Samopomich Union. The PA also elected the final member of the party’s ethical committee.
EPP Lead Candidate Manfred Weber addressed those present to express his gratitude to the member parties and associations for their support and cooperation for the successful European election campaign. The EPP members reiterated that they remain committed to the Spitzenkandidat procedure and ensuring that Manfred Weber becomes the next President of the European Commission.
During the EPP Political Assembly, the current political situation in Ukraine and applications of Ukrainian parties were discussed. The Political Assembly accepted the Samopomich Union as new observer member. The members of the Political Assembly furthermore agreed to grant, after the anticipated elections, observer membership to European Solidarity and People´s Front, whose membership shall come into force under the conditions of continued cooperation on anti-corruption measures and on being a viable political force.
The EPP Political Assembly elected the fifth member of the party’s Ethics Committee, Inge Grässle (CDU, Germany). She joins EPP Vice-President Paulo Rangel and Chair of the Ethics Committee, Tobias Billström (Moderaterna, Sweden), Stella Kyriakides (DISY, Cyprus) and Luc Vandenbrande (CD&V, Belgium).
The EPP President Joseph Daul also condemned the death threats made against MEP Roberta Metsola (PN, Malta) and against all those who speak up and fight for Europe.
