A new report showed that the world could save approximately US$3.5 trillion per year if malnutrition in all its forms was ended.
“Investing in undernutrition is not only the right thing to do but also the smart thing to do”, says MEP Linda McAvan. ”Millions of children around the world are undernourished and will not develop to reach their full potential. The EU, as the world biggest donor, has a key role to play in convincing other donors to invest more in the fight against malnutrition”.
As the EU and its Member States are negotiating their multi-annual budget for 2021-2027, it is vital that nutrition takes its fair share. The EU already contributed to avert some forms of undernutrition. However, the world is not on track to meet the SDGs and the commitments world leaders made to end all forms of malnutrition.
That’s why civil society coalition, Generation Nutrition is joining forces with MEP Linda McAvan to discuss past and future commitments for nutrition and the role that the private sector can play in bringing malnutrition to an end.
Generation Nutrition EU is a network of a wide range of civil society organisations, working to see an end to child undernutrition. We believe that, with strong political will, our goal of a world free of child deaths from undernutrition can be achieved within a generation.
