The European Commission published a new analytical report on the next steps for perspective EU members Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia in order for them to better align with EU legislation.

The report mapped out the areas where each country is currently vis-a-vis the so-called EU acquis, the whole body of common rights and obligations that represents the bulk of EU law. In addition, it evaluated the their statues based on what the governments of the three countries told the EU and based on reports they send as part of their bilateral dialogue.

The Commission will report progress by the countries and will steer the reform priorities that they have to aim for. The priorities will be identified in the Opinions as part of the Enlargement package that it will release in Autumn 2023. The current report identifies the key areas of reform for the three countries, including rule of law, judicial reform, digital and green reforms, foreign policy and domestic market.

The assessment for Ukraine includes only territories currently under governmental control. The three countries received EU prospects status in June 2022 by the European Council, following the favourable opinion expressed by the European Commission.
