The European Green Party has elected Ska Keller of the German Greens Bündnis 90/Die Grünen and Bas Eickhout of the Dutch Greens GroenLinks as the leading candidates (spitzenkandidaten) ahead of the European elections in May. The vote was held at the European Greens’ Council in Berlin.
“We are delighted to have unanimously adopted our “Green Priorities” for the European elections in May next year. It is the result of months of intense work bringing together Green perspectives from across Europe. We cannot deliver real change with half measures, which is why our reform priorities combine radical analysis with an ambitious vision and a pragmatic approach. The 12 priorities are essential to delivering a more equitable Europe based on sustainability, social inclusion, fairness, green transformation, strong democracy and rule of law,” said, commenting on the successful conclusion of the Council, co-chairs Monica Frassoni and Reinhard Bütikofer.
“We thank all the delegates who demonstrated great unity in their contributions to this blueprint for a better Europe. We will work hard to take the “Green wave” to as many parts of Europe as possible. The journey now begins towards capturing the imagination of Europeans everywhere to vote Green in May! Let’s renew the promise of Europe!” they added.
