On November 8, President Alexander Stubb announced the extension of Finland’s involvement in the EU Military Assistance Mission (EUMAM) to support Ukraine. Finland will continue its participation through November 15, 2026, with a maximum of 60 soldiers assigned to training and advisory roles.
The Ukrainian armed forces have a significant ongoing need for training, and EUMAM is designed to be flexible to adapt to their evolving needs. To date, EUMAM has trained approximately 60,000 Ukrainian soldiers.
Finland provides basic and specialised training to the Ukrainian armed forces in Poland, which aligns with EUMAM’s mission mandate. Over 200 Finnish instructors have participated in delivering this training.
EUMAM operates within the European Union’s territory, with training primarily conducted in Poland and Germany, where the mission’s training commands are located. The mission involves participation from twenty-four EU member states and Norway, a non-EU state.
