On 8 May, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov paid an official visit to Lithuania and met with the Foreign Minister of Lithuania, Gabrielius Landsbergis. Azerbaijan’s FM participated in the 7th meeting of the Lithuanian-Azerbaijan Intergovernmental Commission on Bilateral Cooperation.
The Foreign Ministers discussed bilateral cooperation between Lithuania and Azerbaijan, support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression, the situation in the South Caucasus, and the Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict settlement.
Landsbergis noted that Lithuania was closely following the situation in the South Caucasus, hoping for a peaceful settlement of the conflict. “We are convinced that sustainable peace is in the interest of both Azerbaijan and Armenia. Lithuania strongly supports the mediation efforts by the European Union and the U.S.,” said the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy.
Landsbergis also underlined the need to support Ukraine until its victory – complete restoration of the country’s territorial integrity – and assured that the rule of law, human rights and freedoms were the basis of EU-Azerbaijan relations, a condition for further prosperity.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan is accompanied by an intergovernmental delegation consisting of the Azerbaijani Deputy Ministers of Economy, Energy, Digital Development and Transport, Environmental Protection, Agriculture, Science and Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, Health, and heads of other institutions and state enterprises, who will attend the 7th meeting of the Lithuanian-Azerbaijan Intergovernmental Commission on Bilateral Cooperation.
The meeting will review a broad panorama of the areas of cooperation will be reviewed and explore ways of giving new impetus to cooperation.
