According to today’s French weekly Le Point report, US President Donald Trump is planning to visit Russia for Victory Day on May 9, 2025. The article suggests that the victory they’ll be celebrating won’t be the one from 1945 but rather their joint success in the peace talks about Ukraine. These negotiations, led by Trump’s special envoy, Keith Kellogg, are supposed to wrap up by that date.

If this plan works out, it could be a big win for Vladimir Putin, who has defended his invasion of Ukraine by equating Ukrainians with Nazis. The piece points out that if this U.S.-Russia deal goes through, and Trump still gets invited, Europeans might be left feeling a bit bitter, watching Russian soldiers being honoured in Red Square, with the American president right there with them.
