German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during her visit to Kyiv last week. The German Government has prioritised providing aid, allocating over 37.32 billion euros since the war began.

According to a statement by Spokesperson Matthew Miller, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met on 8 November. The two discussed coordinating the next steps in supporting Ukraine.

The Secretary of State thanked Germany for supporting Ukraine, emphasising the importance of assisting Ukrainian efforts to defend their freedom. Russia’s war has caused immense suffering, affecting not only soldiers but also civilians, including the elderly, women, and children. Targeted attacks on civilian infrastructure, such as power plants and water supplies, aim to deprive Ukrainians of necessities.

In response, the German Government has prioritised providing aid, allocating over 37.32 billion euros since the war began. This support includes military equipment, humanitarian assistance, mine clearance operations, and investigations into war crimes.

Blinken and Baerbock discussed the threat posed by Russia’s decision to deploy troops from North Korea (DPRK) in its war against Ukraine and the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.

They emphasised the importance of finding a diplomatic resolution to the conflict in Lebanon, ensuring that civilians on both sides of the Blue Line can return home safely. Additionally, they addressed the need to end the war in Gaza, secure the release of all hostages, and increase humanitarian assistance.
