US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Brussels for urgent talks with EU and NATO officials to enhance support for Ukraine. This discussion comes amid concerns over potential changes in US policy if Donald Trump returns to the White House.

Blinken arrived in Brussels on Wednesday to engage in critical discussions with EU High Representative Josep Borrell and Vice President-Designate Kaja Kallas.

The discussions focused on the need to increase support for Ukraine amid the ongoing Russian invasion.

EU and US officials seek to anticipate a possible shift in US policy regarding Ukraine and NATO once Donald Trump is back in power.

With only a few months left in President Joe Biden’s Presidency, Democrats are eager to implement as many of their priorities as possible while still holding a majority in the Senate.

Blinken reassured his counterparts that the United States is committed to enhancing military aid to Ukraine during the final weeks of Biden’s Presidency and outlined plans for additional US support to Ukraine before the end of January.

“President Biden is committed to making sure that every dollar we have at our disposal will be pushed out the door between now and January 20th,” Blinken said in a meeting with journalists.

Borrell noted that it was the 17th meeting between him and Secretary Blinken and thanked him for their close cooperation. He also remembered several meetings to avoid the war in Ukraine.

“We did not succeed on that; now, we should be able to make the war stop in a just manner for the Ukrainians,” he highlighted.

According to a press release issued by Spokesperson Matthew Miller, the two officials discussed the importance of the U.S.-EU partnership in approaching shared global challenges, including supporting Ukrainian freedom and independence in the face of Russia’s aggression, cooperating on trade, promoting US and EU joint economic competitive advantages, and working to bring stability to conflict zones worldwide.
