European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker told the European Parliament on January 17 that Brussels is not fighting with Poland.
“We are not at war with Poland,” he said. “We have a dispute with the Polish government.”
As reported by Radio Poland online, Juncker stressed he was in “constructive dialogue” with the country, after meeting with Poland’s new Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki last week.
Juncker also called for an end to suggestions that Poland will be sanctioned “come what may” after the Commission in December triggered Article 7 procedures against the country. This unprecedented decision gave Poland three months to reverse controversial judicial reforms.
If Warsaw does not comply, the path to sanctions could be opened, reported Radio Poland.
