Plans to finance ambitious EU Green Deal must be accompanied by a strong European social agenda, underlined MEPs in today’s debate with the European Commission.
Following the Commission’s presentation of a sustainable investment plan, a just transition fund and a Roadmap to building a strong social Europe for just transitions, MEPs warned that a just transition must go hand in hand with creating a more social EU. They stressed that investment in the reskilling and upskilling of workers, decent working conditions and fair wages are all essential elements in the fight against inequality and exclusion. MEPs want the Commission to deliver on the European Pillar of social rights with concrete proposals.
After the debate, Commissioner Nicolas Schmit for Jobs and Social Rights presented the Communication on building a strong social Europe for just transitions including the launch of a first consultation on Fair minimum wages for workers in the EU.
