This week, the European Parliament held an extraordinary session on Russia’s aggression towards Ukraine in which MEPs spoke with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Addressing the plenary, Philippe Lamberts, Co-president of Greens/EFA, called out Russian president Vladimir Putin for unjustifiably invading a sovereign country and attacking a people that chose freedom and democracy.
“That choice was never a threat to Russia’s security, but a threat to the very existence of his authoritarian rule,” he added.
Afterwards, MEPs and their staff went outside to meet with protesters and to show their solidarity with the people of Ukraine.
