In a bid to reduce CO2 emissions, Poland’s energy ministry announced plans to coal energy to 30% of its energy mix by 2040. Coal is currently the source of 80% of Poland’s gross energy consumption.
There are also plans to start producing its own nuclear energy by 2033 and invest in an offshore windfarm programme.
As reported by Radio Poland, the plan states that renewable energy sources should constitute 21% of the country’s energy mix by 2030.
The European Parliament earlier this month adopted a new set of energy efficiency regulations. According to the legislation, 32% of the bloc’s gross final energy consumption is to come from renewable sources by 2030, and energy efficiency is to be improved by 32.5% in the same time frame.
