Narendra Modi @narendramodi

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Warsaw on Wednesday afternoon, marking the first visit by an Indian head of government to Poland in 45 years. On Thursday, Modi is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Donald Tusk and President Andrzej Duda. Following his visit to Poland, the Indian Prime Minister will travel to Kyiv.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Władysław Teofil Bartoszewski stated that there is a desire to establish a comprehensive partnership with India that encompasses political, business, scientific, and cultural collaboration. He highlighted the significance of the Prime Minister of India visiting Poland for the first time. Bartoszewski mentioned the intention to sign a strategic partnership agreement. He emphasised the need for such an agreement, similar to those already in place with South Korea, Japan, and China, which covers regular political, diplomatic, business, scientific, and cultural contacts.

Minister Bartoszewski noted the improved political and economic relations between India and Poland. He mentioned potential cooperation in agriculture, IT, security, new technology, eco-friendly technologies, and India’s advanced space industry. Additionally, there are plans to expand tourism to India, with Polish Airlines (LOT) considering new flights to the country.

Bartoszewski said that Poland is bringing India closer to their understanding of the war in Ukraine, emphasising that it is an imperial, colonial war and that Ukraine is perceived as an independent, sovereign state. Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Ukraine signifies support for its status as an equal member of the UN and is symbolically seen as a positive move.
