Three of the six outgoing MEPs will run again for the European elections in Luxembourg: Christophe Hansen (EPP), Charles Goerens (ALDE) and Tilly Metz (Greens/EFA).
In total, Luxembourgish voters will have the choice between 10 lists for the elections that will take place on Sunday 26 May. Luxembourg has six seats in the European Parliament.
Voting is mandatory for all registered voters in the country.
The electoral system has no threshold for access to the European Parliament. However only 5 parties are expected to win seats.
According to the latest polls the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV) is expected to elect 2 MEPs (1 less than in 2014). The party which is an EPP member enjoys support of 28% of the voters.
The Luxembourg Socialist Workers’ Party (LSAP) enjoys support of 17% of the voters and is expected to win one seat.
The Democratic Party, which is a member of the ALDE Group, the Green Party (Déi Gréng) and the conservative Alternative Democratic Reform Party (ADR) are expected to elect 1 MEP each.
The Pirate Party Luxembourg and The Left (Déi Lénk) enjoy support of 6,5% and 5,5% respectively but it is not expected to enter the European Parliament.
