Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar met with Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, U.S. Representative to the United Nations, on 16 May in Reykjavik, Iceland, on the margins of the Council of Europe Summit.
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield thanked Slovenia for its outspoken support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and expressed our desire to continue working with Slovenia on holding Russia to account for its aggression against Ukraine.
President Musar and Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield discussed Slovenia’s candidacy to the UN Security Council for 2024-2025, and the Ambassador repeated the United States’ belief that Slovenia is a very well-qualified candidate that, if elected, would be a credible voice in contributing to the maintenance of international peace and security.
“Today, during the @COE Summit, I met with President @nmusar. I expressed my appreciation for Slovenia’s outspoken support for Ukraine’s sovereignty. Look forward to continuing to work together to hold Russia to account for its aggression against Ukraine” tweeted Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield after the meeting.
