Through their joint efforts, Taiwan and Lithuania will continue to strengthen their democratic and economic resilience, and contribute to global prosperity and development, President Tsai Ing-wen said, as she received a delegation from the Lithuania-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group (LTPFG), January 25.
Welcoming the delegation, President Tsai noted the presence of lawmakers from both the opposition and ruling parties, stating that they demonstrated the longstanding cross-party support for Taiwan in Lithuania. She also took the opportunity to thank the Lithuanian parliament and government for supporting Taiwan’s international participation, and calling on the international community to pay more attention to issues in the Taiwan Strait.
The 11-member group, which is led by LTPFG Chair Matas Maldeikis, arrived in Taiwan on January 21 for a six-day visit. In remarks of his own, Maldeikis paid tribute to President Tsai, expressing appreciation for her achievements, and stating that her leadership has not only strengthened Taiwan, but made the Indo-Pacific region and the whole world safer. He also paid tribute to the Taiwan-Lithuania relationship, saying that it demonstrates that nations can work together because of their beliefs, not their proximity.
