Romanian Minister of Energy Sebastian Burduja criticised the EU's Green Deal for ignoring economic realities and called for a reassessment of these policies.

On 22 January 22, Romanian Minister of Energy Sebastian Burduja released a report highlighting the negative impacts of the Green Deal policies on Romania’s energy sector. Quoting US President Donald Trump, he emphasised that a state’s democracy relies on its economy and its ability to provide safe, affordable, and abundant energy, which is essential for sustaining families and businesses.

Burduja stated on Facebook that he would always prioritise his country’s interests. His comments followed Trump’s commitment to withdraw from the Paris Agreement, while European leaders affirmed their support for it despite the US exit.

Burduja criticised the EU’s Green Deal for ignoring economic realities and called for a reassessment of these policies. He noted that the EU, which produced only 3% of the world’s coal and emitted less than 5% of global CO2 in 2024, is imposing some of the strictest environmental regulations on its own member states.
