Jeroen Lenaers, Chair of the Committee of Inquiry to investigate the use of Pegasus and equivalent surveillance spyware, issued an explanatory statement on 8 November.
Today, the PEGA Committee Chair Jeroen Lenaers (EPP, NL) issued the following statement: “Given the many questions I continue to receive with regards to today’s press conference of PEGA rapporteur Sophie in ‘t Veld, I would like to clarify the following, to avoid any confusion with regards to the procedures of our Committee.
The rapporteur presented a first draft of the report. It is not a final version and it can -at this point- not be understood as the conclusions or the position of the PEGA Committee as a whole. All Members of the PEGA Committee will have the opportunity to present amendments to the draft report. Only the final report and recommendations, as adopted at the end of our period of activity, represents the position of the European Parliament as a whole.
The deliberations on the findings of our Committee should take place during the meetings of our Committee, where all political groups can present their views on all relevant aspects of our work.”
