The co-founder of global fashion chain Superdry thinks Brexit will be a “disaster” and says he is backing the People’s Vote campaign – a group seeking a new referendum on the United Kingdom’s membership in the European Union. Julian Dunkerton has even donated€1.1m to the group.
He wrote in Britain’s Sunday Times that “we have a genuine chance to turn this around”.
As reported by Deutsche Welle (DW), Germany’s international broadcaster, his donation will be spent on one of the biggest polling operations ever undertaken in the UK.
Dunkerton used Sunday’s opinion piece to complain: “There is no vision for Brexit and the politicians have made a mess of it.”
In the June 2016 referendum, 52% of eligible voters opted for Britain to leave the EU. But a new YouGov poll of 10,000 people last week found that 53% of voters now want to remain in the bloc, versus 47% for leave.
In a separate report, the Reuters news agency noted that Britain’s Brexit minister Dominic Raab will travel to Brussels on August 21 in a bid to pick up the pace of talks with the EU’s chief negotiator Michel Barnier.
“Securing a deal is still by far the most likely outcome, but we want to make sure that we clearly set out the steps that people, businesses and public services need to take in the unlikely event that we don’t reach an agreement, said Raab.
