On November 28, 2024, the Latvian Embassy in Poland hosted a presentation of the film “My Freedom” (Mana brīvība) at the Warsaw Rising Museum. This was followed by a discussion on Poland and Latvia’s shared values in building democratic societies. The event was part of a public diplomacy campaign to support Latvia’s bid for a seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2026–2027 term.
Latvian Ambassador Juris Poikāns opened the event by emphasising both countries’ historical struggles for independence and the importance of upholding international law and democratic values in today’s geopolitical climate.
Director Ilze Kunga-Melgaile highlighted the contributions of Ita Kozakeviča, a significant figure in Latvia’s Awakening movement, who played a crucial role in fostering national pride during the country’s fight for independence.
Around 80 guests, including public figures and diplomats, attended the event. With the motto “Together for Peace and Resilience,” the campaign aims to secure Latvia’s first elected seat in the UNSC, which will help advance its foreign policy interests and enhance international cooperation for global peace.
