In the run up to the European Parliamentary election in May, Sweden’s Left party will not campaign for the country to exit the bloc.
Party members voted down a proposal to include a demand that Sweden leaves the EU on the election platform. It was voted down by 41-30 on February 17.
As reported by Radio Sweden, this is what the leadership of the party wanted and party leader Jonas Sjöstedt is pleased.
In an interview with Swedish Television’s Agenda news programme, Sjöstedt said there are some urgent issues that need tackling at the EU level, such as climate change and the rise of right-wing parties in Europe.
