Italy’s foreign minister, Antonio Tajani, stated that it is crucial to speed up the progress of the Western Balkan countries towards joining the European Union to prevent them from turning towards Russia, China, or other parts of the world. Minister Tajani strongly supported their European future during his visit to Montenegro and North Macedonia at the beginning of this week.
Meanwhile, in North Macedonia, the minister emphasised the need for the EU to support those who aspire to be part of Europe. He also mentioned that these countries have the potential to complete the accession process by 2030, emphasising that this is a significant effort that requires everyone’s commitment.
Minister Tajani assured continued Italian support for North Macedonia on its path towards full EU membership. He also highlighted the significance of not underestimating this process, as failure to support these countries could pave the way for other global players to step in, such as Russia, China, or Turkey.
