A delegation of seven members from European Parliament’s Committee on Transport and Tourism (TRAN), led by MEP Jens Gieseke (EPP, DE), will visit Japan next week to examine its major transport infrastructure projects, including high-speed rail, mobility services, drones and sustainable aviation fuels. MEPs will also explore development of post-pandemic tourism policies and visit the Japan Mobility Show, a major gathering of the actors shaping the future of mobility and in particular urban mobility in Japan.
TRAN delegation is scheduled to meet high-level transport officials from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Members of national Diet committee on transport, private transport companies, Kamakura local authorities and tourism organisations. MEPs will also have a chance to visit Railway Technical Research Institute and the port of Yokohama.
Ahead of the visit the head of delegation Mr Gieseke said: “Japan and the EU are close partners – politically and economically. The visit provides for an excellent opportunity to exchange with our Japanese counterparts on best practices in transport and tourism. We face similar challenges, such as, the industry transformation and we are eager to learn how Japan masters it. As delegation we are very thankful for the kind hospitality and look forward to the exchanges!”
Mr. Gieseke will be joined by six other MEPs: Ms Ljudmila Novak (EPP, SL), Ms Maria Grapini (S&D, RO), Mr Bogusław Liberadzki (S&D, PL), Mr Ondřej Kovařík (Renew, CZ), Mr Jakop Dalunde (Greens, SE) and Mr Marco Campomenosi (ID, IT).
