Following the political leaders’ meeting in the European Parliament today, S&D Group president Udo Bullmann stated:
“Today, we have reaffirmed that the European Parliament remains at the centre of all decisions to select the next president of the Commission. In its various resolutions, the European Parliament has made it clear that democracy needs to be respected. Therefore, we reconfirmed our resolve for the lead candidate process. The European voters have sent a clear signal for change. For the Socialists and Democrats, Frans Timmermans is the only candidate capable of building a progressive majority on a clear platform of fighting social inequalities and tackling climate change.”
