The United Kingdom’s Brexit secretary Dominic Raab has presented the first 25 of about 80 technical notices explaining to businesses and citizens how to prepare for a ‘no deal’ exit from the European Union. This is just in case the UK leaves the EU without a deal in place next March.

As reported by the Reuters news agency, British Prime Minister Theresa May has failed to impress negotiators in Brussels with her “business-friendly” plan. She has also been heavily criticised at home.

While there is growing concerns the country could stumble out of the bloc, Raab stressed he is confident the UK and the EU would reach a deal.

As reported by Deutsche Welle (DW), Germany’s international broadcaster, Raab said he is releasing the documents to help people and businesses prepare for any disruption caused in case of a no deal.

The guidelines stated that companies trading with Europe would face new customs and excise rules and require paperwork covering customs and safety declarations. If Britain left without a deal “the free circulation of goods between the UK and EU would cease,” the guidance said.

Other warnings included in Raab’s guidelines include more expensive credit card payments in the EU and that Britons living in the EU could lose access to their UK bank accounts. Also, companies trading with Europe would face new paperwork to cover customs and safety declarations.
