Following the swift action of US President Donald Trump concerning Ukraine and his adoption of the Kremlin’s narrative about who started the war, several US senators and members of Congress underlined the need for the US to continue to support Ukraine.
Independent Senator for Arizona, Mark Kelly, a retired NASA astronaut, met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on 20 February in Kiyv.
“To call one of our allies ‘a dictator’ while they’re defending their country against an actual dictator is ridiculous,” highlighted Senator Kelly.
“I’ve met with President Zelenskyy multiple times and understand how hard the people of Ukraine are fighting to defend their homeland. I’ll continue to stand with them against Putin even if Trump won’t.”
Also, Republican Congressman Max Miller posted on X that the Ukrainian people have shown “immense resilience in the face of Russia’s unprovoked aggression. Ukraine did not invade Russia; Russia started this war. While I support efforts to pursue a diplomatic resolution to this war, we must ensure that any peace is built on strength, not concession. Ukraine is a sovereign nation fighting for its survival, and the United States must continue to stand for freedom, security, and the defence of democracy. I remain committed to supporting Ukraine and ensuring that Putin, a dictator and a war criminal, does not walk away with a victory.”
