During his visit to Brussels, Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met with Vice President-Designate Kaja Kallas, who will be EU’s top diplomat for foreign affairs, Josep Borrell‘s successor. The two discussed the importance of the U.S.-EU partnership on several issues, focusing on supporting Ukrainian freedom and independence in the face of Russia’s aggression.
“Great opportunity to reengage with High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Vice President-Designate Kallas here in Brussels on issues that matter the most – global peace, security, and stability achieved by a strong transatlantic partnership,” Blinken posted on X after the meeting.
A day before, Kallas told members of the European Parliament during a hearing with the Foreign Affairs Committee that “the EU and the United States are stronger and safer when we work together.”
Kallas highlighted that “the transatlantic relationship is the biggest economic and security partnership in the world. As with all partnerships, they must be built on what works best for both sides. This will not change”.
