Five Women’s Rights and Gender Equality MEPs will participate to this three-day mission to Reykjavik that will focus on pay transparency measures and the elimination of the gender pay gap.
Iceland introduced in 2018 the first policy in the world that requires companies and institutions with more than 25 employees to prove that they pay men and women equally for a job of equal value. MEPs will have the opportunity to discuss the practical aspects of the implementation of this policy and its results with various stakeholders, including representatives of the government, members of the Parliament, women’s rights organisations, civil society and professional organisations. On Wednesday evening, they will meet with members and the Chair of the Icelandic Chamber of Commerce. On Thursday, they will hold discussions with several members of the Icelandic Parliament and participate in a roundtable with stakeholders and experts, before holding a press conference at 15.15 (in Hotel Borg). Later that day, they will visit Hallveigarstaðir (Women’s House) and exchange views with representatives of women’s rights organisations. On Friday, they will meet the three co-authors of a study entitled ‘‘This is all man’s work: management’s experience on the impact of equal pay certification on the collective environment’’. Finally, before leaving the country, they will meet with the Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir (TBC) at the Prime Minister’s office.
